The Satmar Rebbe shlit"a related an incident involving R' Yisroel Stern of Boro Park, when one of the prominent members of the community asked him to ask the Rebbe zt"l, the Divrei Yoel, for his holy opinion regarding a shidduch for a daughter from a distinguished family. He answered, "It is a fine family, but they must take upon themselves three conditions: 1) that they will not go to the elections; 2) that they will send the children to mosdos HaChinuch in Yiddish and the like; 3) that he should be careful to follow the opinion of Rabbeinu Tam on Motzei Shabbos." They replied that they were willing only for the first two. "The Rebbe zt"l said: he is saying this openly because he will not fulfill it, and in the end he will not keep the other two either... Understandably, the shidduch did not happen."
"This was his opinion and his approach.

And in our case it is also so: there is the matter of the opinion of Rabbeinu Tam, there is the matter of chinuch for girls, what may be learned with girls and what may not, there is the matter of drawing close to the Zionist idea, the Agudah, being impressed by their victories, rejoicing with them, as unfortunately is the custom in those circles that have not learned 'VaYoel Moshe,' and it is understood that the holy sefer 'VaYoel Moshe' is 'not to be seen and not to be found' in those homes... Consequently, the heretical members of the Knesset are, in their eyes, respected and close people."

In all these matters, we were educated: "It is not done so in our place!!" Therefore I tell them once again, their place is not here!! By us we will conduct ourselves the way the Rebbe zt"l educated us in the proper outlook, and the way we should be educated, and if there is a circle that does not want to accept this, their place is not here!! Not in Kiryas Joel and not in the surrounding areas of Kiryas Joel!!

"The key to this is the schools for boys and for girls. That it should be made known throughout the world that in Kiryas Joel, no students, boys or girls, will be accepted into any institution if they do not accept to conduct themselves according to the custom of the place."

"We do not demand of them here which melody should be sung or which version of the prayers... Rather conduct in accordance with the outlook of the Rebbe zt"l and his directive in all matters, and we will hold this key firmly. Whoever cannot adapt to this has no right of entry into Kiryas Joel and the surrounding areas, and this will be the salvation for generations, b'ezras Hashem."

If, Heaven forbid, a time comes when there will be in the areas surrounding Kiryas Joel a kehilla and mosdos HaChinuch that are not according to the will of the Rebbe zt"l, the Rebbe zt"l will demand and call to account the one who caused it to come about!! One could have prevented it, and it was not done!! "As I said, every person of understanding grasps that the salvation for this is not to accept students, boys or girls, whoever does not hold to subjecting themselves to his leadership."
