At the Torah, the Rebbe shlit"a based himself on the verse "And he said to them, 'Set your hearts to all the things'," and explained that by fulfilling the mitzvos of Hashem one can merit long life in two ways: either through "those who arrive early and stay late in the shuls," or by performing the service of Hashem with quality. So too, we must prepare for Yom Tov Sukkos to fulfill the mitzvos of Hashem with hiddur, "this is my G-d and I will glorify Him" — a beautiful bracha on the netilas lulav, a beautiful sitting in the sukkah, with heart and feeling for the Holy Creator.

On Motzei Shabbos there was yechidus time in the Rebbe's holy residence.
The beginning of the writing of the letters for a Sefer Torah, being written by R' Dovid Yuda Kohn, took place. The Rebbe wrote in the letters, drank a lechayim, and bestowed from his holy blessings.
Likewise the completion of the writing of the letters took place for a Sefer Torah that was written by the talmidim of Yeshiva Letzeirim in Williamsburg together with R' Yuda Brill (Williamsburg), in memory of his son the bochur Elazar a"h. The Rebbe wrote in the letters, drank a lechayim, and bestowed from his holy blessings.
Also entering the Rebbe's holy room was R' Boruch Lipa Lowy, who presented the Rebbe shlit"a with a magnificent, masterfully made case, a hiddur mitzvah for the Rebbe's lulav, with a silver vase for the lulav. The Rebbe thanked him and bestowed his holy blessing.

Afterwards the Rebbe shlit"a went over to the chanukas habayis celebration of R' Yissochor Ber Davidowitz. The Rebbe affixed the mezuzah, and then a lechayim gathering took place. A beautiful conversation developed about the holy Kozhnitzer Maggid zy"a on his hilula. The Rebbe drank a lechayim and bestowed from his holy blessings.

In the late hours the Rebbe spent a longer time arranging and finished sending out his tzedakah gifts for Yom Tov to Torah scholars and deserving poor people throughout Greater New York.
