Yom Kippur 5783 with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a in our holy kehilla in Williamsburg

On Erev Yom Kippur in the morning at about 6:00, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Great Beis Medrash in Kiryas Joel for Selichos. The baal tefillah was R' Yoshe Teller. They finished at about 6:20. After Selichos, a large crowd of men and residents of Kiryas Joel came to give and receive blessings on Erev Yom Kippur, and the Rebbe went home to his holy residence.

In his holy residence, the Rebbe shlit"a fulfilled the minhag of kaparos and burned the tails of the feathers.
Then, at about 6:45, the Rebbe shlit"a went to the mehudar slaughterhouse, where Rabbi Yoel, son of R' Moshe Wertzberger shlit"a slaughtered the fowl. Before the shechita the Rebbe checked the chalaf, and after the shechita the Rebbe shlit"a recited the lishem yichud and the blessing and fulfilled the mitzvah of kisui hadam. The Rebbe also checked the chalafim of all the shochtim and wished them a gmar chasima tova. Then he made a visit through the entire slaughterhouse facility, and at about 7:30 returned to his holy residence.

At about 8:10 the Rebbe shlit"a traveled into Williamsburg to spend Yom Kippur there.

At about 10:30 the Rebbe shlit"a entered for Shacharis in our Great Beis Medrash in Williamsburg. Before davening the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochur, the bochur Pinchas Mordechai Klein.

After davening a lechayim was held with the bar mitzvah bochur, and the gabbai R' Shlomo Wertzberger went in to the Rebbe shlit"a, where the Rebbe took a piece of lekach and the Rebbe gave a gift to the gabbai as is customary.

In the afternoon at about 2:10 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the pure table of Erev Yom Kippur in Heichal Tehillos Yehosef in the Great Beis Medrash.
Before washing for the seudah of the mitzvah of the day, the Rebbe quietly said a longer lishem yichud. The meat was from the fowl with which the Rebbe had fulfilled the minhag of kaparos as is customary, made kosher by R' Naftali Moshe Weiss.
During the tish, several stirring melodies of the Days of Awe were sung, as the Rebbe shed rivers of tears in his holy chamber, in awe and trembling before the Day of Judgment, especially when the Rebbe sang the piyut "Yirtzeh Tzum Amcha" to the Ahavah Rabbah melody handed down from the holy R' Hersh of Rimanov zy"a.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the piyut "Bameh Akadem, v'Achaf Pnei Lo Yikach Shochad, uv'Yadi Ein Maas, v'Al Zos Libi Yifchad" and explained that on all mitzvos there is a concern that the Sitra Achra might, Heaven forbid, take them away, but the mitzvah of milah, which is engraved in a person's body, they cannot take away, and in that merit every affliction and every illness will be removed from Jewish children.

For Birkas Hamazon the Rebbe honored HaGaon Rabbi Meir Zwiebel shlit"a. They finished at about 3:40.

"And Aharon raised his hands toward the people and blessed them"
After the tish the Rebbe shlit"a went into his private room, where thousands of men passed through to receive blessings for the holy day.

After blessing the public, the Rebbe shlit"a went to a private mikvah, and at about 4:45 the Rebbe shlit"a entered for Mincha in the Great Beis Medrash. The Rebbe lit the seven-day candles at the amud. The baal tefillah was R' Yaakov Hersh Heimann. During the Vidui Gadol the Rebbe prolonged it, weeping. They finished at about 5:20.

After the seudas hamafseket in his holy residence, the Rebbe shlit"a went to the mikvah once more.
Upon arriving at the beis medrash, the Rebbe lit the Yom Tov candles and two neshama candles and a health candle in his private room, where the Rebbe stayed for Yom Tov.
Then, before going into the beis medrash, the Rebbe wished a blessing to all who were entered in the Sefer HaZikaron, and to all the kollel kvitlach from the members in Yerushalayim, Bnei Brak, Beit Shemesh, and Europe.
"With this shall Aharon enter the Holy"
At about 7:00 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Kol Nidrei, wrapped in the kittel, tallis, vestl and kappel of the holy Divrei Yoel zy"a.

The Rebbe went up to the Aron Kodesh, davened a silent prayer, and began the holy Kol Nidrei drasha on the verse "For on this day He shall atone for you, to cleanse you of all your sins; before Hashem", saying that to approach a stirring toward teshuva all year and to hear the bas kol from Mount Chorev one must be on a higher level, but on this holy day everyone can merit to reach da'as, to an awakening and a spirit of teshuva from Above. He continued, in a weeping voice, with our request to the Holy Creator: the needs of Your people Israel are many, may He look upon us, and with that glance all blessings and salvations will come down. This day is also auspicious for Hakadosh Baruch Hu to bestow abundance, even when one finds himself lowly, near the lowest depths, for Hashem's mercy reaches even there. He concluded with abundant blessings.

After the drasha, at the time of the onset of the day, the Rebbe shlit"a as is customary began in a soft, still voice "Ana Tavo Lefanecha Tefilaseinu," and recited at the Aron Kodesh together with the congregation the Vidui with its melody "Ashamnu, Bagadnu..." He burst into terrible weeping, which carried along the entire congregation in awesome tears and shook the hearts of the thousands of mispallelim for several long minutes.

After Vidui, the head gabbai R' Chaim Shlomo Fisher took the Sefer Torah out of the Aron Kodesh and handed it to the Rebbe shlit"a. The Rebbe shlit"a took the Sefer Torah and began words of arousal, saying that the holy Torah is likened to fire, and a disgrace to the Torah is like damage from fire, which is very powerful, since its power is mixed within it. One must know that just as we now look at the Torah, so the Torah looks at each one and asks, "When did we last meet?" And weeping he cried out, "Holy Torah, forgive us." We ask the holy Torah to be a righteous advocate for all of Klal Yisroel; after all, there is no nation like the Jewish children, and we accept upon ourselves good resolutions, and the Torah will bring down all blessings and salvations. They finished at about 8:00.

Then the Rebbe shlit"a recited on the spot three times "Or Zarua" and "Pilgei Mayim," and then walked around the beis medrash, despite the heavy crowding, and said it three more times, once at each side of the beis medrash.

After "Kam Rabbi Shimon" the Rebbe shlit"a began "Kol Nidrei." To hold the Sifrei Torah, the honor was given to the Nasha"k HaRav HaTzaddik R' Yirmi Teitelbaum shlit"a and HaGaon R' Yuda Meir Leichtag shlit"a.
