On Friday night at around 7:40 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash wrapped in his tallis and approached the amud for Mincha. Kabbalas Shabbos: R' Dovid Yuda Zilberstein.

The davening concluded at around 9:15. The crowd went over to wish a gut Shabbos, and the Rebbe shlit"a went into his private room.

A short time after davening, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Shabbos table in the Heichal HaShulchanos together with the talmidei hamesivta, and began, as is his holy custom, "Shalom Aleichem" with feeling and sweetness.

Eishes Chayil: the Rebbe's grandson the bochur Meir Eliezer, son of HaGaon Rabbi, Rav of the beis medrash Beirach Moshe shlit"a. Raising the cup for Kiddush: HaGaon Rabbi Naftali Tzvi Brody shlit"a (Bnei Brak).

In the Torah, the Rebbe shlit"a spoke on the verse "Hashem will establish you as a holy people to Himself," and explained that in the month of Elul everything is focused on the matter of tefillah. Many times, however, there is the aspect of "the wilderness closed in upon them": it is hard to express the words properly before Hashem. The advice, though, is "I groan my groan, I wail my wail" — Hashem understands what a sigh of a Jewish heart means, a tear from a Jew's eye. This is only if one conducts himself with holiness, but with the power of Shabbos, which imparts holiness upon Jews, one merits this as well. He continued at length with tears, that Hashem should help that it should be "Hashem will establish you as a holy people to Himself," that it should not be possible to do evil to the holy chinuch of sons and daughters. "Hashem will establish you as a holy people to Himself" is a promise that Jews will remain a holy nation and will not change anything, not even the slightest bit, even when it is difficult. He concluded with abundant blessings that the year and its curses should end and the year and its blessings begin, and with a good inscription and sealing for all of Klal Yisroel.
