The First Night of Shavuos

During the short break, HaGaon Rabbi Naftali Hirtzka Zwebel shlit"a, Rosh Av Beis Din of Williamsburg, delivered a lecture in honor of the Yom Tov. After the time had passed, the Rebbe entered the beis medrash. Maariv was led before the amud by Rabbi Zalman Leib Filipoff shlit"a, shochet u'bodek. Davening concluded at around 10:10. The congregation passed by to wish a good Yom Tov, and the Rebbe then went to the mikvah in honor of Yom Tov and returned to his holy home, where the Rebbe recited the Tikkun and learned Torah until the tish.

At around 1:45 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the pure table in the main beis medrash. Kiddush was led by the Av Beis Din of Williamsburg shlit"a.

During the tish, melodies of awakening and prayer were sung in honor of the receiving of the Torah.

For the piyut of Maariv, the Rebbe honored HaGaon Rabbi Kalman Halberstam shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Tzanz, Kiryas Joel. Ahavah Rabbah was led by HaGaon Rabbi Shlomo Rubin shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Ciechanów, Kiryas Joel. Afterward, "Vehaer Eineinu" was sung for an extended time with great arousal.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the Midrash, "When Israel received the Torah, the nations of the world became envious of them." The power of Moshe Rabbeinu was, while people sleep, to cleanse the souls of Jewish children; tzaddikim are greater in their death than in their lifetime. Today his great power is to cleanse the souls even when staying awake at night. We hope that on Shavuos we will be able to receive the Torah anew and merit that Moshe Rabbeinu should purify our souls before the Holy One, Blessed Be He, so that we may receive the Torah with radiant countenance.

Birkas Hamazon was led by the Av Beis Din of Williamsburg shlit"a. The tish ended at 3:50. Before going up for the aliyos, the Rebbe went to the mikvah and then returned to his holy home.

The First Day of Shavuos

In the morning the Rebbe entered the beis medrash at around 10:45.

Before davening, a bris took place for the newborn son of R' Simcha Kraus, where the Rebbe served as sandek and mohel.

The davening was opened by HaGaon Rabbi Yisroel Shlomo Lichtenstein shlit"a, moreh tzedek of our kehilla in Boro Park. Pesukei D'zimra was led by HaGaon Rabbi Zalman Leib Meisels shlit"a, moreh tzedek of our kehilla in Boro Park. The Rebbe approached the amud for Shacharis, Yotzer and Hallel. At Ahavah Rabbah, as is the custom, the melody of the holy Rebbe R' Hersh of Rimanov zy"a was sung with great arousal, as the Rebbe lingered in tears. After Shacharis the Rebbe left.

Hotzaah and Hachnasah: R' Dovid Eckstein, Rosh Hakahal, and R' Shmuel Zanvil Wertheimer, director of our mosdos in Monsey. The pesukim of Shema Yisroel: HaGaon Rabbi Yoel Halberstam shlit"a, rav of our beis medrash in Bloomingrove.

The kohen, HaGaon Rabbi Berel Glantz shlit"a of Bardejov, Kiryas Joel, was called up. The Rebbe recited the Akdamus in a voice like flames of fire, with great emotion and outpouring of the soul, and read the Torah with great arousal.

Maftir: R' Shmuel Chaim Brach (Boro Park). Hagbah of the second Sefer Torah: R' Wolf Perl. Gelilah: R' Moshe Avrohom Lefkowitz (Williamsburg). The Rebbe recited the Haftarah standing.

Mussaf: the Gaon Hagadol, the Dayan u'Moreh Tzedek shlit"a. The opening of "Ana'im Zemiros": R' Yosef Klein (Williamsburg). Davening ended at around 3:20.

After a few minutes, the Rebbe entered the beis medrash for the kreplach tish at the Aron Hakodesh. The Rebbe made Kiddush and tasted fish, dairy kreplach and some of the flaadin, and drank a coffee. Yom Tov melodies were sung.

The Rebbe shlit"a delivered a pshetl with the fire of Torah and the joy of the Torah on the topic of "aseh docheh lo sa'aseh," and resolved the difficulties in 3 ways. It ended at around 4:05.

At the midday seudah in his holy home, the Rebbe honored his grandson Rabbi Dovid, son of the Av Beis Din of Sighet shlit"a, with Ahavah Rabbah. The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "Alisa lamarom shavisa shevi" (You ascended on high, you took captives), whose initials spell Shimon bar Yochai, according to the opinion of Rashbi that one is concerned about suspicion in matters of appearance, since it is a Torah-level prohibition, the angels were not permitted to create an appearance of impropriety when they ate meat and milk. Birkas Hamazon was led by his grandson Rabbi Mordechai Yuda Halberstam shlit"a, son-in-law of the Av Beis Din of Sighet shlit"a.
In the afternoon, at around 8:20, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash. Mincha was led by HaGaon Rabbi Mendel Wertzberger shlit"a, dayan and moreh tzedek of our holy kehilla in Montreal.

After Mincha, the Rebbe sat at his place by the Aron Hakodesh for the reading of the Tenaim. Songs were sung in honor of Yom Tov.
The Rebbe recited a blessing over mezonos and drank a lechayim. For the piyut of Ahavah Rabbah, the Rebbe honored Rabbi Nosson Dovid Ashkenazi shlit"a of Stanislav, Monsey.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the Midrash, "When Israel received the Torah, the nations of the world became envious of them." Through Moshe Rabbeinu adding one day so that it would be night together with it, it shows that within the same day there can be darkness and then light, without any impression remaining. Through this, teshuva helps and no impression of any sin remains.

The Rebbe read the Tenaim, and joyous melodies continued in honor of the day as is customary. It ended at around 9:30, and the Rebbe went into his private room.
