Report
Words hewn from flames of fire, from the depths of the pure heart of the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a, at the conclusion of his address at the large assembly among our holy community in Monsey - on the obligation of the hour regarding the situation of Klal Yisroel in Ukraine.

The Rebbe shlit"a first spoke about the war that has broken out between Russia and Ukraine, "and regarding the nations it is said, who is destined for the sword and who for peace," and that this does not concern Klal Yisroel.

The Rebbe spoke a little about the dark history for Klal Yisroel in both countries, but today Torah-observant Jews live in many cities in Russia and in Ukraine.

The Rebbe cried out in a child's voice, with tears: "One must know that the ground is burning in Ukraine." Jews are fleeing destitute and lacking everything; people grab what they can carry, take their wives and children, and flee. "I have begun to receive greetings; Jews are in great distress"...!!
"It was 80 years ago when
our parents lived through the bitter times, and people asked, where are the American Jews?... My teachers and masters, we are the American Jews...!!" I ask you now the question, where are the American Jews? There is nothing to eat, an adult man from 18 up to 60 is not allowed out; women and children are let out, but adult men are not let out. One must smuggle across the borders, one must pay smugglers. It is a matter of pikuach nefesh, which overrides Shabbos!

Afterwards the Rebbe spoke about the terrible local situation there and the trembling of Jews to walk in the street there.

And he called out: America must come to the aid of these Jews!!

"If the Uncle z"l were alive, what would he do now at this time? He would not remain silent; he would call together an assembly of rabbanim, of balebatim, of askanim, and set up a committee to be involved in doing whatever can be done," the Rebbe shlit"a demanded!

The Jews are running to the various neighboring countries and arriving with whatever they have; one must see to it that they have food to eat, until the wrath passes.

Klal Yisroel may not stand on the side and listen to the news and think that it means someone else!!!

Afterwards the Rebbe taught a Torah thought from the Eitz Chaim zy"a, which he said a few days after the First World War broke out, where he calculates the greatness of the tribulations that will precede the coming of Mashiach, and that if one feels pain over the troubles of others, one is saved from one's own; if, however, one does not feel pain, it is not counted. The Eitz Chaim zy"a reflected on our times: people heard of troubles in other countries, in Russia, and we did not feel pain; had we done so, we would already have been redeemed from exile, and for that reason this trouble has now come, and so on.

There is a calamity for Jewish children; we may not stand on the side!! We are the American Jewry; we will be asked, where were you!!

"I am now in Monsey, but I am speaking now to all of Klal Yisroel. Klal Yisroel may not remain indifferent; Klal Yisroel must take responsibility and say what 'can' I do to help, and I 'will' help."

He then concluded with his holy blessings that we should be able to do a favor for our brothers, and that in that merit we should be worthy not to hear or know of any troubles until the coming of the Redeemer.
