More to speak about regarding this matter. Once this matter came about, I began to think it over, and I see that people dare to be lenient on such a serious matter here in the environs of KJ, against the ruling of the Uncle zt"l, so I was moved to speak about this matter with a broader view. "The Uncle zt"l founded the city of Kiryas Joel with his last strength in his old age, and he said an expression that 'if not for Kiryas Joel, he accomplished nothing in all his years for the world.' One must know, we are speaking of a tzaddik who in his years of life did great and hidden things. Yet he considered everything as nothing if he had not established KJ. That is how important the city of KJ was to him!! He did not establish the city because he wanted people to have nice, wide apartments, nice houses, a nice garden with grass and little trees.. That is not why he built KJ. "His entire intent was for the sake of Heaven!! Separation from forbidden sights!! Separation from gentile customs!! Separation from modern Jews!! Separation from the conduct of how modern Jews behave!! But also separation from those chassidim whose Rebbes have different outlooks regarding Zionism, and who have closeness to the Zionist parties of all kinds, Agudah and the like!! Who knows, it was not agreeable to him that his followers daven together with such chassidim who have crooked views, for he suspected that sitting together with them, one is drawn after their outlook, and that harms them. And this was one of the reasons why he longed to build the faithful city, that it be faithful to Hashem and His Torah and to the path of 'VaYoel Moshe,' without compromises, separation from the Zionist idea with the whole country!! Separation from immodesty!! Separation from the gentile street!! Just now, regarding the ezras nashim, about which he shook worlds."

"Today, people come to live in the environs of KJ. Baruch Hashem, 'u'faratzta yama v'kedma v'tzafona v'negba' has been fulfilled for KJ; on all four sides of KJ Jews spread out and live. People settle there who are very far from the outlook of VaYoel Moshe. There are two matters: there are truly chassidic Jews, but in outlook they do not have the proper outlook; and there are simple, coarse people, men of lust, among whom there are great breaches of modesty, in clothing, and in their whole way of life, both on Shabbos and Yom Tov and during the week certainly." These are two different matters, but it comes out to the same thing.

We must think it through with great concern. We do not know how long we are destined to sit in exile, which only the One Creator knows, and there is an obligation to worry about tomorrow, the next day, and the day after. "That there should not come to live in KJ and in the environs of KJ such people who are far from the chinuch which we received from the Uncle zt"l." One must consider that there is a great concern that someone will open a school for girls where they go to learn Chumash, with the excuse that our Rebbes said it is permitted.. There is a possibility that a reception will be made for a member of the Knesset of the heretics, with the excuse that our Rebbes did so.. Chassidim from various circles will arrive, each will make his own business of it, 'Who can stop them?' America is a democratic country and one cannot hinder anyone at all, and each time they will say "the custom of our fathers is in our hands.."

People will hire sacred-service personnel, such as those who preach to go vote in the elections for the Knesset of the heretics in Eretz Yisroel; everything is possible!! And many more matters, which for us are very severe while others are lenient about them, to them it is nothing, and in the end it will, chas v'shalom, influence our own community as well."

It would be understandable if everyone who comes to live, even in the environs of KJ, accepted upon himself that he will conduct himself according to the local custom, as the ruling of the Uncle zt"l on all matters; certainly one must draw such a person close!! But as for someone who does not accept the ruling of the Uncle zt"l, we say to him "What are you doing in this place?" There are other places where one can settle and conduct oneself as he pleases, and we will say nothing to them.
