As long as the destroyers are not eliminated, the fence-builders will not cease

This afternoon, in the Cheder Yisroel Dov in our great beis medrash in Kiryas Joel, a stormy "Assembly of the Rabbonim and Leaders of the Kehilla" took place. It was convened by the great Gaon, one of the leading poskim of our generation, the Av Beis Din of Kiryas Joel shlit"a, who was appointed by the holy Rebbe, founder of the town, zy"a. It was called "in light of the terrible and very grave breach" in the town by those who breach the fence, by officiating at kiddushin without the permission of the Mara D'asra, the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a, against our holy Torah and against the ruling of the founder of the town, zy"a. All the rabbonim, dayanim and leaders of the kehilla in Kiryas Joel participated, headed by the Av Beis Din shlit"a, together with the participation of HaGaon HaTzaddik, Av Beis Din and Rosh Yeshiva of Wmsb"g shlit"a, the firstborn son of the Rebbe shlit"a.

First to speak was the Av Beis Din shlit"a, who sharply emphasized in his remarks that "officiating at kiddushin is not only the one who recites the blessing, but it is a great foundation for ensuring that the town conducts itself with holiness," and that "such a breach is a great breach in the sanctity of Israel," and that it was introduced with a "cherem" by the holy Rabbeinu Tam zy"a. The Av Beis Din shlit"a then repeated the psak halacha and da'as Torah that "both in the town and in the surrounding areas, one may not officiate at kiddushin without the permission of the Mara D'asra," and one should not breach this.

Then the Rosh Yeshiva of Wmsb"g shlit"a spoke with a fiery address. In his remarks he explained what the matter of a Mara D'asra meant to our previous Rebbes, how seriously all the rabbonim back home took it, and he cited from the holy Kedushas Yom Tov zy"a the matter of shechutei chutz: even though there were upright, kosher shochtim who belonged to upright rabbonim, upright Jews nevertheless considered shechutei chutz "exactly like neveilos and treifos," "and all the more so regarding officiating at kiddushin," in which all the Rishonim and Acharonim were very stringent. The Rav shlit"a invited the leadership of our holy kehilla in Kiryas Joel to form a committee that would deal with this and with the thorny cases, and help people who have problems surrounding this matter. The Rav shlit"a then mentioned the gravity of the matter and the "prohibition of participating" in such a wedding. Besides the prohibition and the decree on this by the founder of the town, zy"a, in his letter, one also sees clearly that those who attend such a wedding strengthen the hands of transgressors, and by holding back, one can prevent a large portion of Jews from committing such a severe transgression. Then the distinguished R' Dovid Eckstein, president of our holy kehilla in Kiryas Joel, spoke.
