Torah, Torah, Gird Yourselves

With great excitement, thousands of chassidim from Williamsburg and Boro Park filled the giant "Kent Avenue Square" at the exalted and lofty gathering marking the siyum of Maseches Yevamos and the start of Maseches Kesubos in the "Yesodei HaTorah" group of our holy kehilla. A lavish seudas mitzvah, together with the concluding seudah for the completion of a Torah, was sponsored by the family of the prominent philanthropist R' Yitzchak Rosenberg z"l, a leader of our holy kehilla, in honor of the simcha of the "hachnasas sefer Torah" today in our great beis medrash in Williamsburg.
The chairman of the gathering, HaGaon Rabbi Dovid Shlomo Laub, a rebbi in our yeshiva "Mesivta Hakedosha" and maggid shiur in our kehilla in Monsey, opened the gathering. Next, the honored speaker HaGaon Rabbi Yechezkel Weiss, maggid meisharim in Monsey, spoke, and R' Yisroel Hersh Rosenberg, grandson of the prominent philanthropist R' Yitzchak Rosenberg z"l, a leader of the kehilla, also spoke on behalf of the family. In the hall, the "Shira" choir with R' Meir Adler and the chazan R' Mordechai Zeg Landau delighted the thousands of learners.

At around 9:45 the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a arrived and was received by the chairman of the gathering. They continued with niggunim, after which the chairman called out, thanking and honoring the "supporters of Torah" of the Association of Avreichim of our holy kehilla, may Hashem protect them, namely the prominent philanthropist R' Yitzchak Michoel Jacob, patron of the group, the prominent philanthropist R' Yechezkel Dovid Berkowitz, and the prominent philanthropist R' Avrohom Brach, to whom the Rebbe presented distinguished gifts.

In his holy address, the Rebbe took as his starting point the verse "And Israel encamped there opposite the mountain," and explained it in the manner of a derush in honor of the day, bringing out the fiery power of the holy Torah: "How distinguished is this day," when several thousand chassidim merit to complete Maseches Yevamos, one of the most difficult masechtos in Shas! He praised the thousands of learners, especially those who present themselves for the examination, "Fortunate are you, Israel," and he called out to the chassidim, "From here the call goes forth," that they should join the holy group Yesodei HaTorah: "Please participate in the learning of Maseches Kesubos."

Afterwards the Rebbe spoke in praise of the distinguished philanthropist, who did much for Torah, R' Yitzchak Rosenberg z"l, a leader of our holy kehilla, whose family generously sponsored the seudah, together with the concluding seudah for the completion of the sefer Torah that was brought into our great beis medrash, may Hashem protect it, in his memory. He highlighted his good deeds, especially that he was the first to establish a special hall for Torah learning, the giant "Heichal Tzvi and Yitzchak Rosenberg" in Kiryas Joel. He expressed, "Today is a double simcha, a simcha in the Written Torah and a simcha in the Oral Torah," and concluded with his holy blessings to the donors and askanim and to the entire assembled public.

After the address, the Rebbe made the siyum and went out to joyous holy dancing. First they sang niggunim "in honor of the Tanna, the Godly Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai," and then they continued with joyous dancing in honor of the simcha of the Torah and its learners. At around 11:15, Birkas Hamazon was recited, and the Rebbe davened Maariv in the hall. Afterwards the crowd bid farewell, and they escorted the Rebbe out with drums and dancing, "For He will command His angels for you, to guard you in all your ways," and the Rebbe went home to his holy residence in Kiryas Joel.
