Friday afternoon at 8:40 the Rebbe entered the beis medrash and approached the amud for Mincha. After Mincha the Rebbe said Kaddish in honor of the yahrzeit of his ancestor, the holy Rebbe of Volova zt"l. Kabbalas Shabbos: R' Avrohom Shlomo Katz of Williamsburg. After davening, everyone went over to wish a gut Shabbos. A short time after davening, the Rebbe entered for the Friday night seudah together with the talmidei hamesivta. Eishes Chayil: the grandson, the bochur Meir Eliezer, son of HaGaon Rabbi Baruch. Kol Mekadesh: R' Efraim Moshe Lowy. Menucha V'Simcha: R' Yuda Engel of Williamsburg. The Rebbe said Torah on the verse "Vayisyaldu al mishpechosam": "When Yisroel received the Torah, the nations of the world became envious of them: what did they see that they should be drawn closer than the other nations? Hashem silenced their mouths and said to them, 'Bring Me your book of lineage, as My children bring.'" He explained in the manner of drush that Jewish children are a holy seed, and that for them the good and the future of their children are taken into account. At Shalosh Seudos the Rebbe honored R' Noach Gefen with Odeh, R' Moshe Goldstein with Shir HaMaalos. During the Torah, the Rebbe spoke on the verse "Vayisyaldu al mishpechosam": "When Yisroel received the Torah, the nations of the world became envious of them." He also spoke words of mussar: when we pray "to guard, to do, and to fulfill," the mitzvos we have already fulfilled should remain and not be snatched away by the outside forces, chas v'shalom. The advice is to fulfill the mitzvos "with fiery enthusiasm," through which the outside forces are burned away. This week, Shavuos, is the yahrzeit of the Baal Shem Tov HaKadosh zy"a, who brought the avodah of serving Hashem with fiery enthusiasm, which remained with "all who are called by the name chassid."
