"And It Was in the Days of Wheat Harvest"

At this very moment, at 12 noon (local time), with the sun at its full strength, the annual wheat harvest is beginning in the choicest wheat fields in Yuma, Arizona — a place where rain is not common during the summer months — for the benefit of tens of thousands of members of our holy kehilla, for the mitzvah of matzah in the coming season of Pesach 5787, may it come to us for good.

HaGaon Rabbi Yitzchak Yaakov Beyem shlit"a, who was appointed by the Rebbe shlit"a to serve as supervisor and overseer of the safeguarding of the wheat from the time of planting, for the bakeries of our holy kehilla, together with HaGaon Rabbi Hersh Leib Bernstein shlit"a, dayan and moreh d'asra of Beis Medrash Beis Menachem Tzvi of our holy kehilla in Williamsburg and chairman of the Kashrus Committee of Kiryas Joel, and HaGaon Rabbi Yoel Yitzchak Stern shlit"a, dayan and moreh d'asra of the Dinov Beis Medrash in Kiryas Joel, traveled out on a holy mission to supervise on site and personally accompany the entire harvest process until after it is packed and shipped to New York.
Together with them are the appointed overseers R' Yoel Shlomo Zaldan on behalf of the Kiryas Joel bakery, and R' Baruch Yehuda Spitzer on behalf of the bakery of our kehilla in Williamsburg.

After questioning the special shomrim who were appointed, regarding the climate over the past weeks in the field, the gigantic combine was inspected to ensure that it is clean and dry, and all the pipes coming out of the combine's engine, which could end up in the field during the cutting, were sealed.

Afterward, thousands of kernels from the field were examined to ensure that the kernels are of the highest quality, with no concern of sprouting or splitting.

Then, at the auspicious time, the cutting in the field began, with the gigantic combine being driven by a Jew, a member of the Kiryas Joel community. B'ezras Hashem, in the coming days hundreds of acres of choice wheat will be harvested, guarded from the time of harvest, for the sake of the mitzvah of matzah.

At midday, before the wheat harvest got underway, the distinguished rabbanim shlit"a connected by telephone with the Rebbe shlit"a in Kiryas Joel and delivered a report of all the details in the field. The Rebbe expressed his great satisfaction that everything is proceeding, Baruch Hashem, with the utmost kashrus and hiddur, and bestowed his holy blessing for exceptional success without any obstacle, with the help of Heaven.
