Shabbos Kodesh, Parshas Vaera, Mevarchim Chodesh Shevat — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a in the resort city of Palm Springs, California

On Erev Shabbos afternoon, before the visible sunset at around 3:54, the Rebbe ceased from work as is his custom.

On Friday night at around 5:40, the Rebbe entered the beis medrash, wrapped himself in his tallis and approached the amud for Mincha. Kabbalas Shabbos: R' Shlomo Hersh Eckstein (Kiryas Joel). Davening concluded at around 7:15. The congregation came over to wish a good Shabbos, and the Rebbe walked home to his holy residence.

At around 9:40 the door of his holy residence was opened for the zemiros and divrei Torah.
The Rebbe shlit"a honored the following with the zemiros.
- Kol Mekadesh: R' Dovid Eckstein (Kiryas Joel).
- Menucha V'Simcha: R' Aharon Yosef Weiss (Boro Park).

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "Vegam ani shamati es naakas Bnei Yisroel" ("And also I have heard the groaning of the Children of Israel"), and explained, in the manner of a derush, the sugya of "ein shliach l'davar aveira" (there is no agent for a transgression).

The Rebbe entered for Mincha at around 5:40.

The Rebbe said Torah on the verse "Vegam ani shamati es naakas Bnei Yisroel" and explained that if one is careful in matters of holiness, one merits that Hashem acquires him through "kinyan meshicha" (acquisition by drawing) through "calling to her and she comes," and it is not necessary for it to be through "striking with a stick." He elaborated with words of arousal for the days of Shovavim, saying that all the troubles of the community and the individual, a form of "striking with a stick," come from blemishing matters of holiness, and he urged teshuva for having sinned in matters of holiness in speech, action and thought.

Before bentching the Rebbe told several stories about the holy Rabbi R' Zusha zy"a, and afterwards he recited the blessing over the cup.

For Maariv on Motzei Shabbos the Rebbe approached the amud in honor of the yahrzeit of his grandfather, the Gaon HaKadosh, the Eitz Chaim zy"a, this week.
After Havdalah the congregation came over to wish a good week. It concluded at around 8:00.
