Shabbos Kodesh, Parshas Matos-Masei, Shabbos Rosh Chodesh Menachem Av, 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a, resort town of Bethlehem, New Hampshire

For this Shabbos Kodesh, a group of outstanding talmidim of the Mesivta, Kedushas Yoel branch, were chosen.

On Erev Shabbos after the mikvah, the following talmidim of the yeshiva presented answers to the question that the Rebbe left behind in the yeshiva:

- The bochur Chaim Zanvil son of R' Shlomo Dovid Weiss ni"u.

- The bochur Zalman Leib son of R' Yisroel Shalom Ungar ni"u.
- The bochur Moshe Ari son of R' Avrohom Yoshe Gross ni"u.
- The bochur Yaakov Eliezer son of R' Avrohom Yitzchak Shmuel Mertz ni"u.
- The bochur Yoshe son of R' Eliezer Zusman Rothe.
- The bochur Moshe son of R' Yitzchak Nosson Gandel.
- The bochur Moshe Hersh son of R' Shlomo Herskowitz.

The Satmar Rebbe shlit"a entered for Mincha on Erev Shabbos Kodesh at around 8:50 and approached the amud for Mincha. Kabbalas Shabbos: HaGaon R' Kalman Halberstam shlit"a of Sanz, the yeshiva's director. The davening concluded at around 10:20.

After davening, the congregation went over to wish a good Shabbos and greet the Rebbe, and the Rebbe went into his private room.

At around 10:50 the Rebbe entered the shulchan hatahor in the beis medrash of Kehal Yereim together with the talmidim of the yeshiva and distinguished guests from among our chassidim, and began Shalom Aleichem with emotion and sweetness. Lifting of the cup (Kiddush): the Rav of the Yishmach Moshe beis medrash, HaGaon HaTzaddik shlit"a.

For the zemiros the Rebbe honored, Kol Mekadesh: HaRav Menachem Friedman shlit"a, a rebbi in the yeshiva. Menucha V'Simcha: HaGaon R' Yitzchak Shalom Friedman shlit"a, a moreh tzedek in our holy kehilla in Kiryas Joel and a rebbi in the yeshiva.

Afterward the Rebbe said Torah on the masorah "Nachnu na'avor chalutzim," "Kulanu bnei ish echad nachnu," "Nachnu fashanu u'maridnu," and explained it in the manner of a derush on the sugya of "nirah v'nidcheh einó chozer v'nirah."

The recent chasanim went over to take fruit. Ahz Beyom Hashvi'i: HaRav Yisroel Henoch Shehr shlit"a (Kiryas Joel). The tish concluded at around 1:40.

And on the day of Shabbos

On Shabbos Kodesh morning the Rebbe entered for davening at around 9:45.

The Rebbe approached the amud for Shacharis and recited Hallel with emotion and sweetness.

Before the Torah reading, the appeal for the beis medrash was made by R' Fishel Farkash.

The Rebbe approached the amud for Mussaf in honor of Shabbos Rosh Chodesh. Opening of Anim Zemiros: HaRav Shlomo Sekula shlit"a, a rebbi in the yeshiva. The davening concluded at around 1:30.

After the seudah of Atika Kadisha, the Rebbe shlit"a came over to the beis medrash for the zemiros and divrei Torah at around 3:30; the nigunim of galus and geulah were sung.

The Rebbe tasted challah and kugel and wished "L'chaim." The Rebbe honored the following with the zemiros: Baruch Hashem Yom Yom: R' Eliezer Weiss. Baruch Kel Elyon: HaRav Moshe Yosef Ashkenazi shlit"a. Barchi Nafshi for Rosh Chodesh: R' Aharon Hersh Mittelman.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the masorah "Nachnu na'avor chalutzim," "Kulanu bnei ish echad nachnu," "Nachnu fashanu u'maridnu," and explained it in the manner of a derush on the sugya of "mitzvah haba'ah b'aveirah." Raaya D'Raavin

On Shabbos Kodesh toward evening the Rebbe entered for Mincha at around 8:50. Baal Tefillah: HaRav Menachem Friedman shlit"a.

- Kohen: R' Meir Mendel Weiss (Kiryas Joel).
- Levi: HaGaon R' Anschel Gruber shlit"a (Monsey).
- Shlishi: R' Berel son of R' Yudel Perlstein (Boro Park).

The Rebbe went for Hagbah; it was purchased by R' Aharon Yosef Weiss (Boro Park), and the Rebbe thanked him.
- Gelilah: the bochur Alexander Moshe son of R' Dovid Weiss (Monsey).

At Shalosh Seudos the entire congregation came over to take shirayim from the fish. Dairy food was served, in keeping with the custom of eating dairy at Shalosh Seudos once a year during the Bein Hametzarim period. The Rebbe spoke about this minhag among the tzaddikim of Sighet and Sanz and its reason, and then spread butter on the challah and drank a coffee.

During the Torah, the Rebbe focused on the verse "Eileh Masei Bnei Yisroel" and brought out that through Hashem's declaration of "V'shavta ad Hashem Elokecha" and "U'vacharta bachaim," a power is given to every Jew to be able to do teshuvah; this declaration is eternal and remains in force even in our times, so that every Jew can do teshuvah.

The Rebbe recited the blessing over the cup. For Maariv, R' Aharon Hersh Weber approached the amud. After Havdalah the congregation went over to wish a gutte voch.
