"A cry of wailing is heard from Zion: How we have been plundered"

From the eulogy delivered by the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a for the great Gaon, the Rosh Yeshiva of Brisk zt"l, today, 3 Yisro, in the Heichal Mivtzar HaKollelim in Kiryas Joel.

(After speaking at length with words of Torah.) The Rebbe said, "I want to say words of eulogy for this great loss. I see here in the kollel, the most beautiful place of Torah here in town, that this is the proper place to mourn this great loss, who passed away this week.." (He went on to speak at length in praise of the deceased zt"l, who raised thousands of students in the renowned Yeshiva of "Brisk," in the path of his forefathers.)

"David was successful in all his ways, and Hashem was with him." He was not dragged along after the various pious parties. He stood at the head of the ranks of the God-fearing Jewish people, without fear or dread. He proclaimed the word of Hashem with strength, a battle cry in the camp, against the plague of Zionism within the religious parties that are dragged after Zionism. "He is the man" who cried out "Whoever is for Hashem, come to me!" that Torah institutions should not accept any support from the Zionist government. Many listened to him, and he sanctified Hashem's name in public in this matter. This passing is a great loss for all of Klal Yisroel. "Zion weeps bitterly and Yerushalayim raises her voice" at the passing of this leader of the congregation. About him one can say "Ashrei ha'ish," with the "Hashem" that became known throughout the entire world, that he did not walk in the counsel of the wicked and did not stand in the stance of the wicked. It is a great loss that has no replacement, and the entire House of Israel, in Eretz Yisroel and in the Diaspora, will weep for the burning that Hashem has kindled.

From afar, I send a message of condolence to the esteemed family, to all his students, those mourning after him, and especially to his distinguished son, HaRav HaGaon, who was appointed to fill his father's place as "Rosh Yeshiva of Brisk." May Hashem help him in spreading Torah and yiras Shamayim, "the merit of his forefathers should assist him," may he merit success in all matters and blessing in all his deeds.

He concluded with his holy blessings.
