Shabbos Kodesh, Parshas Matos-Masei — blessing the month of Menachem Av — Shabbos of the holy hilula in the city of the forefathers, Sighet

With holy awe, excitement and the highest elevation, an exalted, historic Shabbos, a taste of the World to Come, was held with the leader of the congregation of Yeshurun, the fruit of the tree of life, the successor to the golden chain of the Eitz HaTamarim dynasty, the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a, in the very place where his forefathers, our holy Rebbes, the tzaddikim of the house of Sighet, generation after generation zy"a, davened. Together with hundreds of chassidim from around the world who merited to take part in these uplifting moments that will accompany them for many years.

No words can capture the experience of this elevated Shabbos. There are no words to express the lofty feelings of the hundreds of participants in the trip. Nevertheless, for the benefit of the thousands of chassidim, we will try to report just the events and honors that took place throughout the Shabbos in the holy shadow of the Rebbe.

The magnificent great beis medrash Eitz HaTamarim was masterfully arranged, with hundreds of places packed together and platforms on both sides in a special way, so that everyone without exception could sit and take part from all sides of the hall, which was indeed full to capacity.

At every place a beautiful siddur, zemiros and special challah covers and the like had been prepared.

All the places were assigned with special cards by the askanim before davening in the beis medrash, and "no man said, 'The place is too tight for me'"; everyone was arranged, "each man by his camp and each man by his flag."
On the dais appeared the full complement of rabbonim of our holy kehilla, some of the sons and sons-in-law of the Rebbe shlit"a, and the hall of the beis medrash was packed with hundreds of our chassidim who came from near and far to take part in the elevated hilula Shabbos in the holy shadow of the Rebbe.

On Erev Shabbos afternoon, before the Rebbe went to the mikvah, several members of the editorial board of "Mishulchan Melachim," in the Kol HaTaachdusenu publication of Kollel Eitz Chaim in Bnei Brak, entered for a private audience. The Rebbe praised the work that goes into the publication, from which thousands of Jews, chassidim of ours in particular and chassidim and men of action from all circles and backgrounds in general, benefit every week. The Rebbe gave several instructions and comments and imparted his holy blessing.

At about 8:20, twenty minutes before candle-lighting time, the Rebbe lit the Shabbos candles in the hall of the beis medrash with a blessing.

Before Mincha, HaGaon HaTzaddik, the Av Beis Din of Sighet shlit"a, spoke with warm words of preparation for the elevated Shabbos.

On Friday night at about 9:20 the Rebbe entered the beis medrash wrapped in his tallis, approached the amud for Mincha and began in a loud voice and holy fire "Hodu laHashem ki tov." He lingered greatly during Shemoneh Esrei and the chazzan's repetition with awesome weeping, several times choking with tears for a few minutes. Mincha concluded after 10:00.
For Kabbalas Shabbos the Rebbe sent his son-in-law, HaGaon HaTzaddik, the Rav of the beis medrash Ohel Feiga shlit"a, and reminded him to recite "Mizmor L'Dovid, Havu laHashem" verse by verse, as is the custom of the holy community of Sighet.
During all the tefillos the Rebbe recited Kaddish in honor of the holy hilula. Davening concluded at about 11:00.

After davening the Rebbe wished a good Shabbos to the rabbonim and dayanim on the dais, and then went down to his holy residence, where the whole assembly came to wish a good Shabbos and greet him, and with a radiant face the Rebbe returned the blessing of good Shabbos.

HaGaon HaTzaddik R' Meir Zwibel shlit"a, one of the rabbonim of our holy kehilla in Williamsburg, delivered a discourse on the greatness of the holiness of the place and the time, in the dining hall. Meanwhile the devoted askanim quickly prepared the hall of the beis medrash for the seudah and the setting of the pure table.

For a private audience entered HaGaon HaTzaddik, the Av Beis Din of London, with the administration of the yeshiva gedola of our holy institutions in London, together with the new menahel of the yeshiva, HaGaon Rabbi Avrohom Shlomo Padwa shlit"a. He spoke for an extended time about the greatness of the holiness of the place, where our holy Rebbes served in the rabbinate and continue to daven here to bring about salvations. The grandfather, the Yismach Moshe, blesses with Birchas Kohanim all who come to the tziyon. A fear and dread seizes one when thinking "before Whom you are entering"; one enters the four cubits of their resting place and begins to contemplate the greatness of their holiness and power, how they shone a bright light in the heavens for thousands of Jews. One looks and says "What am I, what is my life, I am a worm and a maggot, I am ashamed of my sins." He urged everyone to take upon themselves good resolutions here in this place where his holy ancestors aroused Jewish children to teshuva, as it is auspicious to take upon oneself good resolutions. We ask the grandfather, the Yismach Moshe, "Lo yachel devaro, lo yaaseh devarav chulin," that he fulfill the promise to bring about the complete salvation. He concluded with many blessings.

At about 12:30 there were times for private audiences in his holy residence, in the very place where the holy residence of our holy Rebbes stood, and from there many salvations go forth to those who come early to his door and to all of Israel. Hundreds of our chassidim entered with kvitlach and pidyonos to receive the holy blessing and hand over their notes to be remembered for salvation and mercy. The Rebbe took them along and placed them on the holy tziyon of his ancestor, the holy Yismach Moshe zy"a.

During the times of entry, a ceremony of signing contracts took place for the Heichal HaTorah "Heichal Lev Aharon" of our holy kehilla in Manchester, where R' Moshe Aryeh Freund, deputy of the Rosh Av Beis Din in London, purchased a merit in the sifrei heichal, and R' Eliezer Lev purchased the merit of the study hall, and the Rebbe named it "Dameshek Eliezer" in honor of the donor. The Rebbe signed the contracts together with the donors and imparted blessings to the donors and their families and to the askanim of the heichal.
Likewise a contract signing took place where R' Yitzchak Parnes purchased a merit in the Shul Hoif, and the Rebbe imparted his holy blessing to him.

At about 1:50 the Rebbe shlit"a left the city of the forefathers, Sighet, taking with him heaps of requests for salvations and cures.

From Sighet the group set out for the town of Uhel in Hungary, the resting place of the founder of the holy lineage, Rabbeinu Moshe Ish HaElokim, Maran the Yismach Moshe zy"a.

Along the way the Rebbe shlit"a stopped in the town of Csenger.
First the Rebbe affixed a mezuzah in the guesthouse building in Csenger, and then the Rebbe rested for a short 3 hours.
In the morning at 7:30 the Rebbe went to the mikvah, and then affixed a mezuzah in the new beis medrash building.
