Yom Kippur 5784 — "B'tzeil HaKodesh" with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a among our holy kehilla in Williamsburg

On Erev Yom Kippur morning at around 6:05, the Rebbe shlit"a came to Selichos in the Beis Medrash HaGadol in Kiryas Joel. The baal tefillah was R' Yehoshua Teller. They finished at around 6:25. After Selichos, a large crowd of the residents of Kiryas Joel passed by to give and receive blessings on Erev Yom Kippur, and the Rebbe went home to his holy residence.

In his holy residence, the Rebbe shlit"a fulfilled the minhag of Kaparos and burned off the tail of the feathers.
Then at around 6:50 the Rebbe shlit"a went over to the mehudar slaughterhouse, where Rabbi Yoel Wertzberger shlit"a slaughtered the chicken. The Rebbe examined the knife, and after the shechita recited the Leshem Yichud and the blessing and fulfilled the mitzvah of covering the blood. The Rebbe also examined the knives of all the shochtim and wished them a gmar chasima tova. He then toured the entire slaughterhouse, attending to every detail in his holy manner.

At around 7:55 the Rebbe shlit"a arrived at the Beis Medrash HaGadol, where a bris was taking place for the newborn son of R' Yaakov Yuda Taub, at which the Rebbe was the sandek. After the bris the Rebbe traveled to Williamsburg to spend Yom Kippur there.

On the way to Williamsburg the Rebbe shlit"a phoned several of the self-sacrificing heads of the administration of our holy kehilla and mosdos in Eretz Yisroel and bestowed his holy blessings for the New Year.

At around 9:55 the Rebbe shlit"a came to Shacharis in our great beis medrash in Williamsburg. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochurim:
the bochur Shalom Horowitz.
the bochur Moshe Zev Apfel.

After davening a lechayim was held with the bar mitzvah bochurim, and the shamash, R' Shlomo Wertzberger, came in, and the Rebbe took lekach and gave a gift to the shamash as is customary.

In the afternoon at around 2:10 the Rebbe shlit"a came to the holy table of Erev Yom Kippur in Heichal Tehillos Yehosef in the Beis Medrash HaGadol.
Before washing for the seudah of the mitzvah of the day, the Rebbe quietly recited a longer Leshem Yichud. At the lechayim after the fish, the Rebbe wished everyone a gmar chasima tova. The soup contained kreplach, and the meat was from the chicken with which the Rebbe had fulfilled the minhag of Kaparos as is customary.
During the tish, several stirring melodies of the Yamim Noraim were sung while the Rebbe shed rivers of tears in his holy chamber, in awe and fear of the Day of Judgment, especially when the Rebbe sang the piyut "Yirtzeh Tzum Amcha" to the well-known Ahavah Rabbah melody of the holy Rebbe R' Hersh of Rimanov zy"a.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the piyut "Bameh Akadem... Ve'al zos libi yifchad... Aval atah bezochri malchus Shem hameyuchad, ve'al zos ani boteach be'omrim Hashem Echad," and explained that for every deed a person does, an angel is created, and with the power of Krias Shema, which is emunah, and of bircas hamazon, one can overcome the power of the destructive angels.

For bircas hamazon the Rebbe honored HaGaon HaTzaddik R' Naftali Hirtzka Zwebel shlit"a, Rosh Av Beis Din of Williamsburg. They finished at around 3:20.

"Vayisa Aharon es yadav al ha'am vayevarchem"
After the tish the Rebbe shlit"a entered Cheder D in Heichal Meir Zelig, where thousands of men had come to receive blessings for the holy day, in a special arrangement because of the vast crowd.

After blessing the public, the Rebbe shlit"a went to the private mikvah in the home of R' Wolf Landau, and at around 4:40 the Rebbe shlit"a came to Mincha in the Beis Medrash HaGadol. The Rebbe lit the wax candles at the amud. The baal tefillah was R' Yaakov Hersh Heiman. At the Vidui Gadol, the Rebbe lingered in tears. They finished at around 5:20.

After the seudas hamafsekes in his holy residence, the Rebbe shlit"a went again to the mikvah at the onset of the day, and from there went straight to the beis medrash.
Upon arriving at the beis medrash, the Rebbe lit the Yom Tov candles, the yizkor candles, and a healthy flame in his private room where the Rebbe stayed over Yom Tov.
Then the Rebbe blessed all those who were written in the Sefer HaZikaronos, and all the kollel kvitlach from the chassidim in Yerushalayim, Bnei Brak, Beit Shemesh, and Europe.

The Rebbe shlit"a recited the blessing of lehisatef on his own tallis. Before going into the beis medrash, the Rebbe put on the tallis, kittel and cap of the holy Rebbe, the Divrei Yoel zy"a.
"Bezos yavo Aharon el hakodesh"
At around 7:20 the Rebbe shlit"a came into the beis medrash for Kol Nidrei. The Rebbe went up to the Aron Kodesh and prayed a silent prayer, and began the holy Kol Nidrei drashah with great arousal and in a weeping voice. The Rebbe based himself on the verse "For on this day He will atone for you, to purify you from all your sins; before Hashem..." — that Hashem's hand is open to receive those who return, and the real shame is that we have not even opened an opening as small as the eye of a needle. In another manner, through the sins a person commits, he is, Heaven forbid, pushed away; but when one has faith in the Almighty and repents out of love, one is never lost. Every mitzvah and every sin is recorded. In the Makom HaMikdash one must do extra teshuva for having defiled the Makom HaMikdash, through pure waters, which are hot tears.

After the drashah, at around 7:50, at the onset of the day, the Rebbe shlit"a began Vidui with the congregation according to the minhag of our holy Rebbes, and began with tremendous, unceasing weeping "Ana tavo lefanecha tefilaseinu," and recited at the Aron Kodesh together with the congregation to the melody "Ashamnu bagadnu..." as between each word the Rebbe burst out in a terrifying cry that drew the entire congregation into awesome weeping and shook the hearts of the thousands of worshippers for several minutes.

After Vidui the shamash of the Shabbos, R' Chaim Shlomo Fisher, took the Sefer Torah out of the Aron Kodesh and handed it to the Rebbe shlit"a. The Rebbe took the Sefer Torah lovingly and began his words of arousal, saying "Sarnu mimitzvosecha, ki emes asisa" — through the Torah, which is Toras Emes, we have the strength not to be blinded by the yetzer hara. In a weeping voice he continued, "We are full of sin" only because we have not learned enough; we are appeasing the holy Torah. "Holy Torah, forgive us," the Rebbe cried out in tears. We will take it upon ourselves to learn and to fulfill the mitzvos, and we ask the holy Torah to be a righteous advocate for all of Klal Yisroel in Heaven.

At the end, the Rebbe recited twice on the spot "Or Zarua" and "Palgei Mayim," and then walked around the beis medrash — despite the heavy crowding — and recited it three more times, once on each side of the beis medrash.

The Rebbe shlit"a davened all the tefillos from a Machzor Tefilla Yeshara.
After "Kam Rabbi Shimon" the Rebbe shlit"a began "Kol Nidrei." Honored with holding the Sifrei Torah were R' Yirmi Teitelbaum shlit"a and HaGaon R' Aharon Silberstein shlit"a.

Then the Rebbe shlit"a began Maariv.

Shir LeYom HaShabbos — "Az beyom hashevi'i": the shamash of the Shabbos, R' Yehoshua Mendlowitz.

They finished at around 11:30. The Rebbe shlit"a went up to the Aron Kodesh and, with a radiant face, wished the entire congregation "Gut Yom Tov."

The Rebbe shlit"a came to Yizkor at around 1:30 and then 1:45. They proceeded to Musaf.

Fortunate is the eye that saw the holy Avodah at Musaf, with the awesome weeping of the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a.
"Aharon kadosh Hashem lesharsecha kedushas" — especially during the holy Avodah in the Seder HaAvodah, in outpouring of the soul.

Hagbah: R' Avrohom Brach. Gelilah: R' Pinchas Moshe Landau (Boro Park).

They davened quickly and did not recite Avinu Malkeinu as is customary, because of the late hour. They finished at 6:45.

Immediately after Mincha the Rebbe shlit"a began Ashrei of "Tefillas Neilah" with holy fire and tremendous weeping. The Thirteen Attributes were recited at all the shtikelach, following the minhag of the holy Rebbe, the Beirach Moshe zy"a. Pesichah for Neilah: R' Yitzchak Klein.

After Kaddish Titkabal at around 8:11, R' Naftali Hirtzka Stein sounded the Tekiah Gedolah, and the Rebbe shlit"a cried out in a mighty, powerful voice "Leshanah haba'ah biYerushalayim!"

The Rebbe shlit"a waited until the large minyan finished and then stood to daven Maariv. The baal tefillah was R' Yoel Weinberger. They finished at around 8:45.

After Maariv the Rebbe shlit"a put on his shoes, then went over to Heichal Tehillas Yehosef, made Havdalah and broke his fast, and wished the entire congregation a gut Yom Tov. The Rebbe shlit"a was then escorted out with song and music to the melody of "Ashrei HaAm."
"Veyom Tov haya oseh betzeiso beshalom min hakodesh"

At around 11:05 the Rebbe shlit"a came to the Seudas Motzei Yom Kippur with drums and dancing in our great beis medrash in Williamsburg, in the presence of thousands upon thousands of Yidden. Upon arrival the Rebbe went out and danced a fiery dance on the spot for several minutes.
The Rebbe washed for the seudah. At the lechayim after the fish the Rebbe shlit"a wished "A good, blessed year; may everything good be what we have prayed for." Wine was served with the soup as is customary.

During the tish, Yom Tov and simcha melodies were sung at length, along with stirring melodies from the day's tefillos. For the Zemer HaMavdil, the Rebbe shlit"a honored HaGaon HaTzaddik R' Eliezer Mordechai Sofer shlit"a, Rav of our kehilla in Linden.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the piyut of HaMavdil, "Zareinu vechaspeinu yarbeh kachol, yetzaveh Hashem chasdo lema'an Yaakov avdo," and explained that when one does teshuva out of love, the intentional sins become merits, and Yidden can enjoy the good of this world, because Hashem, so to speak, acquired Yaakov Avinu through lifting; he continued with words of preparation for the upcoming Yom Tov of Sukkos, IY"H, and then concluded with abundant blessings.

They continued singing joyous melodies, and the Rebbe stood up to dance "Uvechen tzaddikim yireu veyismachu" with great strength for a lengthy time. For bircas hamazon the Rebbe honored HaGaon HaTzaddik R' Hersh Elimelech Teitelbaum shlit"a, Rav of our Beis Medrash Tefilla LeMoshe in Boro Park.

They finished at around 12:50, when the Rebbe shlit"a was escorted out with song and music.

"Ashrei ha'am shekacha lo, ashrei ha'am sheHashem Elokav"
