Shabbos Kodesh, Parshas Ki Savo — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

On Friday night at around 8:05, the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash wrapped in his tallis and went to the amud for Mincha and Kabbalas Shabbos: HaGaon R' Chananya Goldberger shlit"a.

After davening, an appeal was held for the Chassidic seminary in Yerushalyim, the holy city. It ended at around 9:35, the crowd went over to wish a good Shabbos, and the Rebbe went into his private room.

At around 10:15 the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a entered the Shabbos table in the Heichal HaShulchanos together with the talmidim of the mesivta, and began, as is his custom, with Shalom Aleichem with feeling and sweetness.

Eishes Chayil: the grandson of the Rebbe, the bochur Meir Eliezer, may he be well, son of HaGaon HaTzaddik Rav D'beis Medrash Barach Moshe shlit"a. Lifting of the cup: R' Aharon Eisen (Yerushalayim).

The Satmar Rebbe shlit"a honored people with the zemiros. Kol Mekadesh: HaGaon R' Shlomo Hersh Eckstein shlit"a, moreh tzedek. Menucha V'simcha: Rabbi Chaim Meir Stein shlit"a.

The Satmar Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "V'atah hinei heveisi es reishis pri ha'adamah" and explained in the manner of a derush the sugya of safek d'oraisa min haTorah.

Stories and anecdotes: this week the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a told over about the holy R' Mordechai Dov of Hornosteipl zy"a, whose yahrzeit fell on Friday, 22 Elul.

"Uv'yom HaShabbos Kodesh"

On Shabbos morning the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a entered at around 9:35. Pesukei D'zimra: HaGaon R' Yechezkel Gelbstein shlit"a. The Rebbe went to the amud for Shacharis.

Hotzaah and Hachnasah: R' Yosef Zev Moikopf (Williamsburg). Pesukei Shema Yisroel: Rabbi Yosef Binyamin Stern shlit"a.

Aliyos. Kohen: R' Yudel Katz. Levi: the chasan, the bochur Avrohom Ezra Opfelderfer. Shlishi: the chasan, the bochur Yoel Silberstein – bombarded with candies. Revi'i: the chasan, the bochur Chananya Goldberger – bombarded with candies. After the aliyah, the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a recited the Mi Sheberach and named the baby girl born to:

Then the aliyah went to: R' Yitzchok Eizik Silberstein.

After davening, the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a went over to the Ziditchov beis medrash for the Kiddusha Rabba simcha of the grandson of his brother-in-law, HaGaon HaTzaddik Av Beis Din of Montreal shlit"a, for the baby girl born to Rabbi Elchonon Chaim Teitelbaum shlit"a, son-in-law of HaGaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Shlomo Rubin shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Ziditchov, Kiryas Joel. The Rebbe made Kiddush and tasted mezonos and fish, and warmly blessed the baal simcha, the grandfather, the Av Beis Din of Ziditchov, Kiryas Joel, and the great-grandfather, HaGaon Rabbi Chaim Yaakov Rubin shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Ziditchov, and then the entire gathering. A longer conversation of stories of tzaddikim followed with the distinguished rabbanim shlit"a. It ended at around 1:15.

Seudah Shlishis

The Satmar Rebbe shlit"a entered for Mincha and Seudah Shlishis at around 8:00. Mincha: R' Yoel Goldman. Hotzaah and Hachnasah: R' Yosef Lefkowitz. Kohen: Rabbi Yaakov Glick shlit"a (Williamsburg). Levi: R' Avrohom Ezra Opfelderfer (Williamsburg). Shlishi: HaGaon R' Menachem Zev Stern shlit"a, moreh tzedek in our kehilla in Williamsburg. Hagbah: the Rebbe shlit"a. Gelilah: R' Chaim Hersh Goldberger.

The Rebbe honored people with the zemiros at Seudah Shlishis. Odeh: R' Noach Gefen. Shir HaMaalos: R' Moshe Goldstein.

The Satmar Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "V'atah hinei heveisi es reishis pri ha'adamah" and explained that in the month of Elul, when one is engaged in teshuva, a shofar is blown; one must have at least a small opening, alluding to "Pischu li pesach k'chodo shel machat." One must make an issaruta d'lisata, and a beginning is half of everything.

Yedid Nefesh: Rabbi Peretz Tuvia Deutsch shlit"a. Kel Mistater: R' Zundel Drohmer. The Rebbe recited the blessing over the cup and said Sheva Brachos.

Maariv of Motzei Shabbos: R' Menachem Zev Makabetzky. After Havdalah the congregation went over to wish a good week. It ended at around 10:30.

After Havdalah, the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a paid a condolence call to the family of R' Yosef Jacob a"h.
At around 12:40 the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a arrived at the hall of Beis Rachel Paradise for the siyum on Maseches Kiddushin by the hundreds of talmidim of the ninth-grade mechina l'yeshiva from both branches of Mosdos Kiryas Yoel. The parents and grandfathers of the bochurim also participated. ChaRuzim were sung, and the Rebbe drank lechayim and blessed the entire gathering. He delivered words of kodesh and, with emotion, expressed the significance of so many hundreds of bochurim completing all of Maseches Kiddushin, and concluded with many brachos.
Afterward the Rebbe distributed to all the bochurim a Zemiros Barach Moshe. It ended at around 1:15.
