The First Days of Yom Tov Pesach — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

On Erev Yom Tov at around 8:15 in the evening, the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash and approached the amud for Mincha, beginning with Hodu. After Mincha, the Rebbe recited the Seder Korban Pesach and studied the text in the Yaavetz. Maariv was led by R' Dovid Chananya Weiss shlit"a. The Rebbe approached Hallel with feeling and arousal. After davening, the Rebbe went up to the Aron Kodesh and wished the entire congregation "a gutten Yom Tov," then went straight home to his holy residence. They finished at around 9:50.

Before the Seder, the Rebbe shlit"a distributed matzos to the grandchildren and recited the text from the holy Zohar, "Pekuda Basra Da."

At around 10:15, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Seder wrapped in his tallis over his kittel. Like olive saplings around his table sat the hundreds of chasanim, talmidim of our holy yeshiva, who merited to take part in the Seder as "the king in his company." The tables were set in royal fashion, with masterful organization, which the devoted house bochur arranges year after year with such skill that everyone in every corner can take part in the uplifting moments in the Rebbe's presence: the fulfillment of the mitzvos of the night, the recital of the Haggadah and divrei Torah, and the recital of Hallel with holy emotion and outpouring of the soul.

The Rebbe arranged the Seder plate, the matzos and the simanim, and recited "Askinu Seudasa D'Malka" and Ribbono Shel Olam.

During the Seder, the Rebbe said divrei Torah 16 times: at Kadesh, Mikra Kodesh Zecher L'Yetzias Mitzrayim, Karpas, Yachatz, Ha Lachma Anya, Hashata Hacha L'Shana Haba'a Bnei Chorin, Mozgin Hakos and Kan Haben Sho'el, Avadim Hayinu, Maaseh B'Rabbi Eliezer, Baruch Hamakom, Rasha Mah Hu Omer, Yachol MeiRosh Chodesh, V'Hi She'amda, and V'Higadta L'Vincha.

The Rebbe said "Kadesh" aloud in the style of his holy forebears, and said the first Torah thought.

The Rebbe's grandson, the child, son of Rabbi Chaim Yaakov Rokeach, son-in-law of HaGaon Rabbi, Rav of the Yismach Moshe beis medrash shlit"a, recited the simanim in Yiddish.
The Rebbe said "Hineni Muchan U'Mezuman" to fulfill the mitzvah of the first cup, stood up, recited the Leshem Yichud of Kiddush, and made Kiddush with holy fervor. The cup was held up by the Rebbe's grandson, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Taub shlit"a, son-in-law of HaGaon Rabbi, Rav of the Yismach Moshe beis medrash shlit"a. After Kiddush, the Rebbe signaled that everyone should make Kiddush.

Right after Maggid, the Rebbe recited the "Hineni Muchan" for the mitzvah of retelling the Exodus from Egypt with holy fire, uncovered the matzah, and recited the Haggadah with feeling and melody.

Before Mah Nishtana, the Rebbe related the holy custom received from his father, the Divrei Yoel zy"a, to clap both hands together according to the Belz custom, and he gave a clap with his hands, palm on palm.

The child, son of Rabbi Chaim Yaakov Rokeach, may he live, asked the questions, and afterwards all the grandchildren together. At the plagues, the Rebbe poured out wine from the cup as is customary, and immediately had it taken out.

After the second cup, the Rebbe removed his tallis, washed his hands, and recited the Leshem Yichud and the berachos of Hamotzi and Al Achilas Matzah with holy emotion, and ate the kezaysim of matzah, and later the kezaysim at Maror and Korech, with deveikus.
At Shulchan Orech, the Rebbe ate the egg from the Seder plate, and the Rebbe himself ate the afikoman right away, before chatzos. The afikoman was "stolen" by the Rebbe's grandson, the bochur Meir Eliezer, son of HaGaon Rabbi, Rav of the Beirach Moshe beis medrash shlit"a. After finishing the afikoman, the Rebbe waited for the Yom Tov meal to be served to all the participants, and in the meantime the Rebbe studied various sefarim and Haggados. Afterwards the Rebbe took a small piece of afikoman and sent it around to all the participants. After eating the afikoman, the Rebbe told the story of the Divrei Chaim zy"a, how it seemed to everyone that they were eating the korban Pesach, as the tzaddikim eat it in purity and with the holiness of Eretz Yisroel.

The cup of Eliyahu was poured, the door was opened, and the Rebbe said Torah.
After the tefilla of Shfoch Chamascha, said with arousal and emotion, the Rebbe's fourth cup was filled from the cup of Eliyahu, and shirayim were sent to all the participants. Then they continued with the recital of Hallel with great arousal and longing, especially at the piyut of Nishmas Kol Chai, where the Rebbe prolonged with holy emotion, weeping and outpouring of the soul. After the Seder, they continued with the piyutim and zemiros as is customary. They concluded at around 3:45, and the Rebbe went up to his private room, where the Rebbe recited Shir HaShirim with deveikus and holy emotion.
