Report of the Holy Journey of the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a to the Ancestral City of Sighet, yatzlicha

Monday, Parshas Terumah, the Yahrzeit of Maran HaGaon HaKadosh, the Kedushas Yom Tov zy"a

In the early morning hours, the Rebbe shlit"a was engaged in Torah study in the library of his holy home, after which the Rebbe went to the mikvah.

After the mikvah, before leaving for the holy kever, the Rebbe studied the teachings of the Baal HaHilula in the sefer Kedushas Yom Tov. Afterwards the Rebbe instructed the house bochur to arrange the kvitlach that had been collected from over 4000 yeshiva students, young and old, as per the Rebbe's instruction to mention all the students from America at the holy kever on the day of the holy hilula.

At 7:15 the Rebbe shlit"a left on foot for the holy kever, together with a large crowd of fresh guests who had come right after Shabbos solely for the holy hilula.

Upon arriving at the cemetery the Rebbe recited the blessing, then entered the holy ohel and lit 5 candles along with a neshama candle at the kever of the Kedushas Yom Tov, and then at the graves of the Yitev Lev and Etz Chaim, and also at that of HaGaon HaKadosh Rabbi Moshe Yosef of Uhel, may their merit protect us.

The Rebbe shlit"a then returned to the kever of the Kedushas Yom Tov and began the prayer "Shalom Aleichem, my master and teacher" with awesome weeping for an extended time. Then they began reciting Tehillim, the fourth book, from chapter 90 through 107 as is customary. The Rebbe skipped some of the chapters and then recited the Yehi Ratzon with stormy weeping reaching the highest heavens. The Rebbe said Kaddish, learned Mishnayos, and then said Kaddish D'Rabbanan.

The Rebbe then read the kvitlach for a very long time, while many melodies from the beis medrash of our holy Rebbes zy"a were sung in an awakened spirit, beginning with "Bnei Heichala," which was also sung at the kever of the Kedushas Yom Tov.

Before prostrating himself, the Rebbe placed upon the kever all the sacks of kvitlach that had been brought from the yeshiva students. The Rebbe then prostrated himself for an extended time, with great weeping, and afterwards went over to the Yitev Lev and Etz Chaim, read several kvitlach from family members, and then prostrated himself.
At approximately 8:45 the Rebbe left, having accomplished all good for us and for all Israel. The Rebbe washed his hands and traveled back to his holy home.

Around 9:15 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Shacharis davening in the heichal of the beis medrash in the Etz HaTemarim building, and led the davening as shliach tzibbur on the day of the hilula.
Pesicha: Rabbi Naftali Horowitz shlit"a (London); Baal Koreh: the Rebbe's grandson, the bochur Meir Eliezer Teitelbaum.
Aliyos: Kohen: R' Fishel Katz (Williamsburg); Levi: Rabbi Asher Yeshaya Horowitz shlit"a, a grandson of the Baal HaHilula; Shlishi: the Rebbe shlit"a; Hagbah: R' Dovid Aharon Schwartz (Boro Park); Gelilah: R' Yaakov Shlomo Rubinfeld (Kiryas Joel).
After the Torah reading the Rebbe shlit"a did recite the 5 Yehi Ratzons.

After davening the Rebbe shlit"a went into his private room and put on Rabbeinu Tam tefillin. Meanwhile the beis medrash was readied for the "Ceremony and Celebration of the Laying of the Cornerstone" for the grand and magnificent center, the "Hachnasas Orchim Building," on the grounds of the shul courtyard.
The Rebbe shlit"a arrived at the ceremony and related stories of the greatness and holiness of the Baal HaHilula, and then spoke about the matters of the occasion of the Hachnasas Orchim building, which will be built b'ezras Hashem.
The Rebbe shlit"a then laid a brick from the original building that had stood there. The Rebbe poured the cement and placed the cornerstone, and added several coins of the holy Rebbe, the Beirach Moshe zy"a. Several melodies were sung, including "Biglal Avos" and "Ahavas Olam Tavi Lahem," etc. It concluded around 11:15, and a full breakfast was served to the public, as well as provisions for the road to take along on the way.

At 12 o'clock all the buses of the chassidim left for the airport in the city of Baia Mare. Meanwhile the Rebbe shlit"a went out for a walk through the streets of Sighet and spoke about various events that he had received from his great father, the holy Rebbe, the Beirach Moshe zy"a, pointing out each thing and where and how it happened.

Around 1:10 the Rebbe left the ancestral city of Sighet with emotions of longing, and at 2:30 arrived in Baia Mare, where the special charter flight took off at 3:15 for Warsaw, and from there they immediately transferred to a flight to New York, which took off at 5:05.
On the plane, right after takeoff, the Rebbe davened Mincha on the plane and led the davening as shliach tzibbur in honor of the holy hilula and recited the Kedushos.
Afterwards the Rebbe shlit"a engaged in Torah study in the sugya of "shelo k'derech hanaasan" and wrote chiddushei Torah for several hours. Later the Rebbe spent an extended time on the plane with the select benefactors who had financed the elevated Shabbos Yeshiva of Maalah. The Rebbe related historical chapters and many holy stories and conduct from the earlier years of his youth in the shadow of the holiness of his great father, the holy Rebbe, the Beirach Moshe zy"a.

Baruch Haba B'shem Hashem! At 8:20 in the evening the plane landed safely and in a good hour at JFK Airport, and around 8:50 the Rebbe left the airport for his holy home in Kiryas Joel.

At 10:05 the Rebbe shlit"a arrived at his holy home and was awaited by the students of the Mesivta. "Baruch Haba" was sung and they came over to greet him.

Immediately afterwards the Rebbe came in to Maariv in his holy home. After Maariv, the chassidim came over to greet him.

May the merit of the holy fathers protect us, and may our requests be fulfilled in good measure, with salvation and mercy
