Thursday, Parshas Lech Lecha 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a


This morning a bris took place for a newborn son of R' Avrohom Rabbi Bentzion Palatchek, at which the Rebbe served as sandek.

The Rebbe davened Shacharis in the Heichal HaMesivta, Beirach Moshe branch. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochur, the bochur Nesanel Braun.
During the Torah reading the Rebbe went up for hagbah, and after davening he recited the daily Tehillim shiur, on chapter 27, verse 3. Afterwards the talmidim of the yeshiva went over to greet the Rebbe shlit"a on the occasion of the new zman. A lechayim also took place with the bar mitzvah bochur in the Rebbe's private room.

At around 6:15 the Rebbe davened Mincha in his holy home on Route 17M.

In the evening the Rebbe officiated as mesader kiddushin at the chuppah of the mechutanim:
- R' Yoel Rabbi Shmuel Friedman and R' Meir Eliyahu Acker, in the Kinor David halls.
- R' Aryeh Rabbi Chaim Yehuda Herskowitz and R' Meir Yitzchak Weiss, in the Beis Rochel Paradise halls.

Yechidus hours in Kiryas Joel were from 8:00 until 12:30 at night, in the Rebbe's holy home on Uhel Road.

During the yechidus hours, the chalake celebration took place for the Rebbe's great-grandson, the child Meir ny"u, son of Rabbi Baruch Rokeach shlit"a, son-in-law of the HaGaon, the Rav of the Beis HaMedrash Ohel Feiga shlit"a. The Rebbe cut off a few hairs, put on the child's kappel and tzitzis, and warmly bestowed his holy blessing upon the chalake boy, upon the grandfathers, HaGaon the Av Beis Din of Karov shlit"a and HaGaon the Rav of the Beis HaMedrash Ohel Feiga shlit"a, and upon the entire family.

The Radvil Rebbe shlit"a of Monsey also paid a visit in Kiryas Joel. A pleasant conversation ensued, and the Rebbe bestowed his holy blessing upon him.

At around 10:15 the Rebbe went down to the tenaim hall in his holy home, where the Rebbe read the tenaim of the mechutanim R' Yoel son of R' Yosef Chaim Weiss and R' Aharon son of R' Moshe Schwartz.

At around 12:00 a lechayim gathering took place in Kiryas Joel on the occasion of the opening of our new beis medrash in Linden, which will open this Shabbos Kodesh with great splendor. Participating were HaGaon the Rav of our Linden kehilla shlit"a and the heads of the kehilla's leadership together with many members of the community, residents of Linden. The Rebbe heard a report from the Rav shlit"a, and then delivered divrei Torah on the occasion of the opening of the beis medrash, speaking at length about everything required of a Chassidic beis medrash in matters of Torah, tefillah, gemilus chasadim and tznius, and concluded with his holy blessing.
The Rebbe drank a lechayim and bestowed his holy blessing upon the Rav of our kehilla shlit"a and upon the entire assembly. They sang in honor of the occasion, and afterwards all the residents went over to receive the Rebbe's holy blessing.

The Rebbe davened Maariv at around 12:30.

Wednesday, Parshas Lech Lecha 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

In the morning, the brissin took place.
- For the newborn son of R' Chaim Dovid Schwartz, where the Rebbe was the sandek.
- For the newborn son of R' Mordechai Aharon Zagel, where the Rebbe was the sandek.

The Rebbe davened Shacharis in the Talmud Torah Binyan Hirsch of Boro Park together with the students of the 9th grade of the branch of HaRav HaRav Yoel Spitzer shlit"a, on the occasion of the simcha of the first putting on of tefillin of the Rebbe's grandson, the bar mitzvah bochur Elimelech ny"u, son of his grandson HaGaon Rabbi Chaim Hersh Ashkenazi shlit"a, Rav of Beis Medrash Rav Tov, and grandson of the father-in-law of the Rebbe's grandson, HaGaon HaTzaddik, Rav of Beis Medrash Avnei Tzedek shlit"a, and son-in-law of HaGaon HaTzaddik, Av Beis Din of Boro Park shlit"a.

The Rebbe put tefillin on his grandson the bar mitzvah bochur ny"u, and on the bochur Efraim Weiss.
Afterwards the Rebbe wound the straps around the fingers of his grandson ny"u.

After davening a lechayim gathering took place in the hall of the beis medrash. The children sang several niggunim in honor of the occasion. The Rebbe drank a lechayim and offered blessings to the bar mitzvah bochur, to the father-in-law of his grandson, HaGaon HaTzaddik, Rav of Beis Medrash Avnei Tzedek shlit"a, to his grandson HaGaon, Rav of Beis Medrash Rav Tov shlit"a, and to all the teachers of Torah and the children. The Rebbe delivered words of Torah on the verse "So that the Torah of Hashem will be in your mouth," explaining that for hiddur mitzvah there is indeed reward for the mitzvah in this world. He urged the bochurim not to speak while wearing tefillin, which is a hiddur of the mitzvah of tefillin, and concluded with his holy blessing.

After Shacharis the Rebbe went over to the Mesivta building, branch Kedushas Yoel, where a reception took place for the chareidi board members on behalf of the government's college program.
Upon arrival the Rebbe greeted HaGaon R' Boruch Avrohom Horowitz shlit"a, Rosh Yeshiva of Bobov and son-in-law of the Bobov Rebbe, author of Divrei Shlomo zt"l, who had been sent by the government for the routine oversight of the studies. Also present were the principals of all the branches of the Mesivta and the roshei kollel of all the kollelim of our holy kehilla in New York, together with the members of the Mesivta's administration.
The Rebbe greeted the representatives, took the floor, and set forth the entire history of the yeshiva from the day it was founded, and the growth and flourishing of its close to 1,500 students. He praised all the teachers of Torah and the tremendous, good chinuch that the bochurim receive, which greatly helps them in later years. This is seen indeed in that Kiryas Joel is a city of close to 45 thousand souls! and there is not a single criminal or shooting, and all this is thanks to the yeshiva years, in which the bochurim are educated only toward Torah and mitzvos.
Afterwards R' Dovid Shmuel Goldberger spoke on behalf of the administration, and then the principals and the roshei kollel present each described the many programs and frameworks provided for the bochurim, from entering yeshiva until after the chasunah. It ended around 1:15 and the Rebbe went home to his holy residence.

At about 2:15 in the afternoon the Rebbe shlit"a set out on the road to the 'Otisville prison' in Upstate, where the Rebbe paid a visit of chizuk to our brethren of the House of Israel who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, and used the opportunity to intercede with the authorities to try to ease their situation as much as possible.
Upon arrival the Rebbe greeted the local high-ranking officials who hold the actual power to make the regulations and restrictions on the inmates stricter or looser, as well as the chaplain who handles Jewish matters in the prison.
A meeting was held with the officials, where the Rebbe discussed with them various ways to ease conditions for the inmates, asked the officials to cooperate with the askanim, and promised to work on all other fronts to ensure that they do not run into any bureaucratic, political or legal obstacles.

Afterwards a gathering took place in the local beis medrash, where close to three minyanim of Jews who are, unfortunately, sitting in darkness and the shadow of death received the Rebbe with great joy. The prison chaplain, Rabbi Chaim Shochet shlit"a, Mara D'asra of Kehal Anshei Sfard Monsey, spoke.
Then the Rebbe delivered words of holy Torah with strong words of chizuk for those sitting in darkness. After the Torah thoughts a halachic discussion developed with the Jews, in which, among other things, several tried to answer the lomdishe question that the Rebbe shlit"a had left at the siyum of the "Yesodei HaTorah" chaburah of our holy kehilla last Sunday, and the Rebbe engaged in Torah discussion with the Jews.
Afterwards the inmates had to leave the place to go to the daily count, and the Rebbe waited in the beis medrash until it was over. In the meantime a conversation developed with the chaplain, in which the Rebbe took an interest in the situation of the Jews who are, unfortunately, in prison, and in what more can be done to help them out.

After the count the local Jews returned, and a lechayim gathering took place.
First the entire assembled public sang Ani Maamin together. The Rebbe drank a lechayim and distributed shirayim to the whole public. Then all the inmates had the opportunity to go in to the Rebbe shlit"a privately, where the Rebbe personally strengthened each one greatly to be able to continue in such a difficult situation.
After several hours the Rebbe left the facility after leaving his holy blessing together with many words of chizuk for our brethren of the House of Israel who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, and thanked the askanim who arranged the visit, and traveled home to Kiryas Joel.

At around 6:00 the Rebbe davened Mincha in his holy residence at Tzanz 19.

In the evening the Rebbe officiated at the kiddushin at the chuppah of the mechutanim.
- R' Shimon Yitzchok Filaf and R' Yaakov son of R' Shmuel HaKohen Friedman in the halls of Kinor Dovid.
- R' Yehoshua Tzvi Friedman and R' Dovid Eli Neustadt in the halls of Beis Rochel Paradise.
- R' Shimon Landau and R' Yoel son of R' Shlomo Weisman in the halls of Ginas Klein.

Entry times for kvitlach were from 8:20 until 9:20 in the evening at his holy residence at Ohel 19.
The Rebbe davened Maariv at around 9:20.

After Maariv the Rebbe went down to the tenaim hall in his holy residence, where the Rebbe read the tenaim of the mechutanim R' Yoel son of R' Avrohom Schiff and R' Yoel son of R' Yisroel Wider.

At around 9:50 the Rebbe went over to Beis Medrash Rav Tov in the Eitz Chaim neighborhood for the bar mitzvah simcha of his grandson, the bar mitzvah bochur Elimelech ny"u, son of HaGaon, Rav of the beis medrash shlit"a.
The Rebbe washed for the bar mitzvah seudah. During the seudah the father-in-law of the Rebbe's grandson, HaGaon HaTzaddik, Rav of Beis Medrash Avnei Tzedek shlit"a, HaGaon, Rav of Beis Medrash Rav Tov shlit"a, and the grandfather, HaGaon HaTzaddik, Av Beis Din of Boro Park shlit"a, spoke. After the soup the bar mitzvah bochur delivered the pshetl.
The Rebbe delivered words of holy Torah on the subject of tefillin and in praise of the bar mitzvah bochur, who has completed several masechtos, and wished that he be able to complete all of Shas, concluding with abundant blessings.
Then the Rebbe stood up and danced for a while. At bentching the Rebbe honored the bar mitzvah bochur. It ended around 11:10.

Tuesday, Parshas Lech — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

In the morning, brissin took place.
- For the newborn son of R' Berel Feldman, where the Rebbe was sandek and mohel.
- For the newborn son of R' Berish Weiser (Montreal), where the Rebbe was sandek and mohel.

The Rebbe davened Shacharis in the Heichal HaMesivta, Eitz Chaim branch — third shiur. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochurim:
- The bochur Simcha Franzoiz.
- The bochur Yitzchak Rubin.

After davening, the Rebbe recited the daily Tehillim shiur, on chapter 27, verse 3. Afterwards, the yeshiva students came over to greet the Rebbe shlit"a on the occasion of the new term. A lechayim was held with the bar mitzvah bochurim in the heichal of the beis medrash.

In the afternoon hours, the Rebbe traveled into Williamsburg for the weekly yechidus hours.
The Rebbe davened Mincha at around 5:15 and Maariv at around 7:30 at his holy home on Hooper St.
Yechidus hours were from 7:50 until 12:40 at night at his holy home.
During the yechidus hours, the Skver Rebbe shlit"a of Boro Park paid a visit together with his brother and mechutan HaRav HaTzaddik R' Pinchas Twersky shlit"a to receive the Rebbe's holy blessing on the occasion of the weddings of their children, mazel tov. A pleasant conversation took place about stories of the Tchernobyl dynasty. The Rebbe honored them with a lechayim and shared from his holy blessing.

Also entering was Rabbi Avrohom Baruch Friedman shlit"a, son of the Gaon Av Beis Din of Brezhan shlit"a and son-in-law of the Krali Rebbe shlit"a, to receive the Rebbe's holy blessing on the occasion of the wedding of his son, mazel tov, and the Rebbe shared from his holy blessing.

Monday, Parshas Lech Lecha — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

The Rebbe davened Shacharis in Yeshiva Gedolah, Divrei Yoel branch. During the Torah reading, the Rebbe was called up for Shlishi. After davening, he recited the daily Tehillim shiur, on chapter 27, verse 3.
Afterwards, the yeshiva students came over to greet the Rebbe shlit"a on the occasion of the new term.

In the morning hours, the Rebbe distributed leftover sukkah decorations to the askanim who helped with building and taking down the sukkah at his holy home. The Rebbe thanked them and wished them his holy blessing.

In the afternoon hours, the Rebbe addressed, via a telephone hookup, the assembly of rabbonim that took place in Montreal in advance of the massive protest that took place Tuesday in front of the Zionist consulate in Quebec against the decree of drafting yeshiva students in Eretz Yisroel. He emphasized the obligation resting on every individual member of the community to participate in the massive protest and to cry out the anguished outcry against the wicked government and its decrees.

In the afternoon, the Rebbe went up to the yeshiva, Divrei Yoel branch, where the Rebbe learned with a chavrusa from among the yeshiva students in his private room. At around 5:45, the Rebbe davened Mincha in the yeshiva.

In the evening, the Rebbe officiated at the kiddushin at the chuppah of the mechutanim:
- R' Gershon Mendel Feldman and R' Meir Mordechai Budek in the Kinor David halls.
- R' Yoel Eliyahu Schwartz and R' Yehoshua Kahn in the Beis Rochel Paradise halls.

After the chuppos, the Rebbe comforted the mourner HaRav Dovid Perl shlit"a, who is sitting shiva for his sister a"h.

Yechidus hours were from 7:50 until 12:30 at night at his holy home on Ohel Ct.

During the yechidus hours, HaRav HaTzaddik Rabbi Nechemya Alter shlit"a, son of the Gerer Rebbe shlit"a, paid a visit to the Rebbe. A pleasant conversation took place about the holy Sfas Emes zt"l. He also received the Rebbe's holy blessing on the occasion of the wedding of his son, mazel tov. The Rebbe honored him with a lechayim and shared from his holy blessing, and asked him to send a blessing of mazel tov and regards to his father, the Gerer Rebbe shlit"a.

The Rebbe davened Maariv at around 12:30.

Sunday, Parshas Lech Lecha — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

This morning a bris took place for the newborn son of R' Yoel Avigdor Kahana, where the Rebbe served as sandek and mohel.

The Rebbe davened Shacharis in the Beis Medrash HaGadol. Before davening, the Rebbe put on tefillin for the bar mitzvah bochur, the bochur Naftali Tzvi Horowitz.
After davening, a lechayim took place with the bar mitzvah bochur in the Rebbe's private room.

At around 2:00 the Rebbe set out on the way to the Kalahari Center in Pennsylvania, where the "gathering of learners and siyum of half of Shas" took place, hosted by the 'Chaburas Yesodei HaTorah' of our holy kehilla, with the participation of thousands of our chassidim, members of the chaburah, both those completing and those beginning.
The Rebbe arrived at around 3:30 and entered the beis medrash, where thousands of our chassidim, members of the chaburah, were seated learning the last ten blatt of Maseches Kiddushin. The Rebbe looked around with emotion among the learners and gazed upon them with great nachas for an extended time. Afterwards the Rebbe sat down on the dais of honor, where the Rebbe engaged in Torah study.
After a few minutes the Rebbe went into his private room, where the Rebbe davened Mincha; the baal tefillah was R' Mendel Kaufman.

After Mincha the Rebbe returned to the beis medrash and observed the written examination taken by the thousands of learners on the last ten blatt of Maseches Kiddushin.

After the examination, the Rebbe delivered an introductory shiur on Maseches Bava Kamma, beginning with rare emotion, "Baruch Shehecheyanu v'kiyemanu v'higianu lazman hazeh!", seeing such a large gathering of learners and those completing. He then explained with clarity the four primary categories of damages (the Arbaah Avos Nezikin) with contemporary examples so that they would be well understood, and he left a question on the sugya for the thousands of learners, concluding with words of encouragement and a blessing for the learners. Afterwards the Rebbe went into his private room.

At around 6:20 the Rebbe arrived at the grand seudah in honor of the Torah, in celebration of the siyum on Maseches Kiddushin and half of Shas. Upon entering, the Rebbe greeted the distinguished rabbanim at the head table and washed for the seudah.
The chairman, HaGaon Rabbi Shlomo Shabsi Kestenbaum shlit"a, one of the rabbanim of our holy kehilla in Williamsburg, continued the program and called up the esteemed philanthropist R' Akiva Hersh Klein, patron of the chaburah in Kiryas Joel, the esteemed philanthropists R' Yechezkel Dovid Berkowitz and R' Avrohom Brach, patrons of the chaburah in Williamsburg, and then R' Yoel Heller, R' Mendel Kaufman and R' Yitzchak Michael Jacob, among the leading askanim of the chaburah, to come receive a gift from the Rebbe shlit"a.

Afterwards the master of ceremonies, R' Chaim Shlomo Fischer, spoke with eloquent words and a brief historical overview of when the Rebbe shlit"a founded his Chaburas Yesodei HaTorah about 20 years ago. He brought out that the holy Yetev Lev zy"a had instructed his children to bless and bestow good influences by delivering divrei Torah, and he related that the Rebbe shlit"a delivered over sixty Torah talks during the month of Tishrei alone! He asked the Rebbe shlit"a to bestow abundant blessings upon the entire gathering in all matters.

At around 7:10 the Rebbe delivered a dvar Torah on the verse "Lech lecha mei'artzecha etc. — v'heyei bracha," noting that we stand today at a siyum of half of Shas of a chaburah established nearly twenty years ago, "and I too am a member of the chaburah from the day it was founded." Baruch Hashem, today there are such chaburos all over the world and much Torah has been spread through the chaburah. The holy Torah bestows all blessings and will surely take effect upon all the learners of the chaburah. He spoke in praise of the members of the chaburah who learn one daf a day with quality, and pointed out that in this hall one sees many parents with their children and even grandchildren who all completed the maseches — "Fortunate is he and fortunate is their portion!" He concluded with a call to our chassidim, both those present here and those not present: whoever does not yet have a fixed shiur should join one of the chaburos of our holy kehilla, either Chaburas Yesodei HaTorah or Chaburas Toras'cha Sha'ashuai. The main thing is that it be with total consistency — to learn, to review, and to be tested.

The Rebbe concluded and thanked the distinguished donors who support the chaburah, first and foremost R' Akiva Hersh Klein, as well as R' Yechezkel Dovid Berkowitz and R' Avrohom Brach, who, besides their great efforts to elevate the honor of our holy kehilla and mosdos, come to the aid of the chaburah, and all the other askanim, each one by name be blessed. "May the Holy One, blessed be He, repay their deeds and grant them very great reward." He concluded with his holy blessing to the entire gathering.

After the dvar Torah, melodies of inspiration and devotion to Torah study were sung as a preparation for the siyum of the maseches. Afterwards HaGaon Rabbi Shlomo Rubin shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Ziditshov in Kiryas Joel, spoke.
The Rebbe completed Maseches Kiddushin and began Maseches Bava Kamma, recited the Hadran and Kaddish, and then went out into a festive dance for an extended time together with the gathering of thousands, with great emotion and Simchas Torah joy.

At Birkas Hamazon the Rebbe honored the esteemed philanthropist R' Akiva Hersh Klein, and the Rebbe recited Sheva Brachos for several of our chassidim who are chasanim. Afterwards the Rebbe bestowed his holy blessing upon the organizers of the event. The event ended at around 8:45 and the Rebbe davened Maariv in his private room; the baal tefillah was HaGaon Rabbi Avrohom Chaim Matzen shlit"a, one of the rabbanim of Hisachdus Avreichim in Williamsburg.
At around 9:15 the Rebbe set out on the way home to Kiryas Joel.

Shabbos Kodesh, Parshas Noach 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

Before candle lighting, the Rebbe placed the shtreimel on the chassanim.
- The chassan Dovid Tzvi, son of Yekusiel Yosef Neiman.
- The chassan Mordechai Shmuel, son of Shimon Yitzchak Filaff.
- The chassan Avrohom Hersh, son of Aryeh Herskowitz.
- The chassan Moshe, son of Yoel Friedman.
- The chassan Chaim Shraga, son of Gershon Mendel Feldman.

At about 6:40 the Rebbe entered the beis medrash wrapped in his tallis and approached the amud for Mincha. Kabbalas Shabbos: HaRav Zalman Leib Filaff shlit"a. They finished at about 8:10.
An appeal was held for the Talmud Torah Tiferes Yaakov in Eretz Yisroel, may it be rebuilt. Afterwards the congregation went over to wish a good Shabbos, and the Rebbe went into his private room.

At about 8:50 the Rebbe entered the holy tish in the Heichal HaShulchanos together with the talmidei hayeshiva, and began Shalom Aleichem in his customary holy manner, with emotion and sweetness.
Eshes Chayil: the Rebbe's grandson, the young Yissachar Ber (may he be well), son of the Rebbe's brother, HaGaon Rabbi Moshe Beirach shlit"a, Rav of the beis medrash. The raising of the cup was given as an honor to R' Mordechai Gelber (Yerushalayim).

Before the fish, the Rebbe delivered words of Torah on the verse "These are the generations of Noach," and brought out that through singing zemiros and praises at the Shabbos seudah, the body receives kedushah, and one has the strength to fight the yetzer hara an entire week. He thereby urged the bochurim to conduct the Shabbos seudah properly with zemiros and praises, and said that "we have not hired a group of singers," rather the entire yeshiva must sing the Shabbos zemiros in honor of Shabbos.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "These are the generations of Noach… Noach walked with G-d," where, as the Baal HaTurim says, the final letters spell "chacham" (wise), and explained that the punishment one receives for committing a sin is not for the sin itself but for not having done teshuva. Through learning Torah one merits to hear the heavenly voice emanating from Mount Chorev saying "Return, wayward children," and one merits teshuva. He also spoke words of chizuk for the new zman, to baalei batim, avreichim, bochurim and yeshiva students, to ensure that they have Torah shiurim with absolute consistency.

After Havdalah the congregation went over to wish a good week. They finished at about 9:00.

On Motzei Shabbos at about 10:40, the Rebbe went over to the Zanz beis medrash for the Sheva Brachos celebration arranged by the beis medrash in honor of HaGaon Rabbi Kalman Halberstam shlit"a, Rav of the beis medrash, on the occasion of the wedding of his son, mazel tov. A pleasant conversation developed about Zanz stories and customs, and the Rebbe drank a lechayim and bestowed of his holy blessing.

From there the Rebbe traveled to Williamsburg for the siyum on Maseches Kiddushin by the graduates of our holy institutions' 9th grade, which took place in the halls of Ginas Esther.
The Rebbe arrived at about 11:50. The bochur Shimon, son of Yechezkel Dovid Berkowitz, one of the students, sang rhymes in honor of the occasion. The Rebbe drank a lechayim and offered good wishes to his brother, HaGaon Rabbi, Rav of our kehilla in Boro Park shlit"a, to the HaGaon Av Beis Din of Williamsburg shlit"a, to the rabbanim present, the parents, and all the bochurim. He delivered words of Torah and chizuk to rise every day in avodas Hashem and to do teshuva for yesterday's days. He spoke in praise of the bochurim who learned Torah the whole year and completed Maseches Kiddushin and rose higher and higher in avodas Hashem. He wished abundant blessings to all the bochurim now entering the yeshivos ketanos, that they continue to succeed in growing in Torah and yiras shamayim, and concluded with his holy blessing.
Afterwards the Rebbe distributed his sefer "Shemuasa D'Maran" on the order of the parshiyos, combined with various sugyos from Maseches Kiddushin, to the bochurim. They finished at about 12:30. On the way out of the hall, the Rebbe stopped by the distinguished philanthropist R' Yechezkel Dovid Berkowitz and personally thanked him for his residence in Kiryas Joel HaMeuchedes, where the Rebbe stayed during the past Shabbos for rest, and the Rebbe then traveled home to Kiryas Joel.
